Discard the disarray
Thursday, June 02, 2011

Hi guys, am finally back after my hiatus.

A lot has happened in the past few months. Now if you would take the time with me as I journey through memory lane...

January: Traffic Police test

First off...I got my driver's licence! I might sound a little cocky here but I do feel that my pass on the first attempt is deserving. The day before my test, I went for a final revision. And as if fate would have it, I got posted to the instructor which I felt was the best among the lot of instructors that have tutored me before. I kept a very stern face and mood throughout the revision. My instructor then told me to take a good rest tonight and arrive early for the test the following morning.

And so I did. Did the warm-up session without a hiccup. My stern self was still on during the warm-up. Actual test came and gone just like that in less than 20 minutes. Sat down in the waiting room for my results. Out came the tester with my results slip...

Extreme elation.

Jian Hao accompanied me for my test and he was waiting outside the theory trial room for me. Sneaked up behind him as he was using his laptop with my results slip. His first reaction was: "Shall I tell the guys about it?" Rejected him square in the face LOL. I wanted to broadcast it on my own.

January: Laneway Festival 2011

At the end of the month, I closed things off by attending the Laneway Festival. Though smaller in scale compared to heavyweights like Glastonbury, SXSW and Coachella, they still managed to bring in Foals, !!!, The Temper Trap and my main reason for attending...Beach House.

OMGOMGOMG VICTORIA LEGRAND OMGOMGOMG

Jah (pictured) from Poptart and Ginette Chittick from BEAT! kept the crowd going in between sets. Great effort from the ladies despite the sound checks going on which kind of disrupted the music at times.

Will definitely attend 2012's festival. Can't wait till the release of the lineup! In the meantime, I'm waiting for Two Door Cinema Club's gig in August...

March-April: Internship at Carat Media

You know how Polytechnics always claim that they are "preparing us for the workplace"? Well scratch all that. Until you step into an office building and experience for yourself first hand, all that theory learned in school is pretty useless unless you know how to apply it in the workplace.

Anyway, thanks to See Tiong Hui and Tommy Lee (people who take care of my marketing module), I got a chance to intern at Carat, a media agency with global clients such as Nokia, Jet Star, OCBC and Tourism Australia.

To those of you who have a choice between an internship or FYP, TAKE THE INTERNSHIP. You will learn so much more outside compared to doing a silly project which you will most probably rely on Google for. Just being in the midst of professionals everyday will transform you into a different person. Unlike a Polytechnic where you are surrounded by teenagers, you get to immerse yourself with people whom you may work for one day; and that is a very, very valuable experience to carry with you.

Regarding the internship...I had to sacrifice 7 out of the 8 weeks of my holidays to undertake it. Right now it's June, and I finally get to take a short 2 week break. I think I deserve this break. Haven't had a chance to really kick back and relax after last semester's examinations (in which I scored pretty well for hahahaha).

That's about all guys. If I have the time, I'll do a short photo entry on my room before I shift over to my new place. I spent 16 years of my life in the current apartment I'm living in...a little tribute post should do justice to it :)
